Social Search – The Hottest Marketing Trend for 2024

Hubspot’s 2024 Social Media Trends report cited that today 1 in 4 consumers prefer searching for brands over search engines with Gen-Z’s and Millennials leading the pack with a combined total of 59% favouring social apps over internet browsers. Searching via social media allows consumers to do their own research gaining insights and recommendations from people not directly linked to the business or product they are interested in.


This coupled with the continued rise of influencer content and user generated content, I expect Social Search to increase exponentially in the coming years. So how as a business can you best prepare?


Here’s my top 5 tips.


  1. Firstly, ensure your business is listed on searchable platforms that your audience uses or have potential to use in the future.

  2. Develop a social media content strategy that targets your audience and focusses on likes, comments and shares. Include CTA’s that directs them to what you are trying to achieve and engage with current trends to grow your reach.

  3. Work with influencers to build backlinks. Very similar to website backlinks, the more your business is linked from other social media channels, the higher your search ranking will be.

  4. Use keyword & social listening tools such as Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, Sproutsocial or Brandwatch to find what people are searching for in your niche.  

  5. Short-form video content will explode in 2024 so make sure that when you upload your video’s, they are SEO friendly. Name your files using keywords you want to target and add on topic alt text.

With more than 94% of 18-24 year olds now owning a smartphone* and social media being better optimised for trends, speed and user generated content, businesses have to act now to ensure they meet future demand.
